"Virtual Institute investigates Virus Infections"
"Research in Germany", a portal that offers the latest scientific and research news from Germany, has published an article about the new virtual institute and its program grant "Viral Strategies of Immune Evasion" (VISTRIE), which was selected for funding by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. This virtual institute is coordinated by the German Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (Luka Cicin-Sain group) and consists of four more partner institutions: Medical School Hannover, the TWINCORE Centre for Experimental and Clinical Infection Research in Hannover, the Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf in Germany and the University of Rijeka in Croatia (Stipan Jonjic group). Verbal presentations at the CMV Workshop 2011
The abstracts submitted by Tihana Lenac Rovis, Tihana Trsan and Vanda Juranic Lisnic from the Center for Proteomics and the Department of Histology and Embryology have been selected for oral presentations at the 13th International Cytomegalovirus / BetaHerpesvirus Workshop in Nuremberg, Germany (14th - 17th May 2011). The talk titles are: “Downregulation of CD155 (PVR) by mouse cytomegalovirus" (Tihana Lenac Rovis), "Vaccine properties of mouse CMV expressing ligand for the NKG2D receptor" (Tihana Trsan) and "Analysis of MCMV transcriptome" (Vanda Juranic Lisnic).

Stipan Jonjic has been invited to give a talk at the NK2011 Meeting in Mainz, Germany, which is held from 18th - 20th April 2011. The research personnel of the Center for Proteomics participated at the European Congress of Immunology (ECI2009), 13th – 16th September 2009, Berlin, Germany.
Stipan Jonjic, the CAPRI2010 coordinating person, was appointed Chair of the Scientific Session ”Microbial Evasion of the Immune System” and had an invited talk on the topic of viral inhibitors of NKG2D ligands.
Marina Babic, a PhD student at the Center for Proteomics and the Department of Histology and Embryology, presented the poster entitled ”The MCMV m04 protein plays a key role in NK cell inhibition via missing-self mechanism”.

CAPRI2010 and TransMedRi press conference
A joint press conference on two financed FP7 REGPOT projects of the University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine - CAPRI2010 and TransMedRi, was organised at the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Medicine on 20th July 2010. The invited guests were all department chairs of the Faculty of Medicine, Chancellor of the University of Rijeka, representatives from the Ministry of Science, Croatian FP7 National Contact Points, PhD students in the biomedical field, political representatives from the local government and Rijeka county as well as scientists from international partner institutions. The event was organised in frame of the TransMedRi project Kick-off meeting, which marked the project beginning.
