WP1 Upgrading the existing technological capacities of the Center for Proteomics

Objectives:

  • to upgrade the Center’s infrastructure by purchasing and testing new equipment for building up a complete work flow line comprising instrumentation for:
  • hybridoma development, screening and storage - upgrading of cryoconservation and storage facilities incl. data management system for large numbers of hybridoma;
  • mAb and protein production and purification in high yield, including final characterization, quality assurance and function analysis;
  • new protein expression techniques, e.g. automated cell free protein expression systems, including work with baculovirus vectors and insect cells as well as eukaryotic expression in mammalian cells.

Tasks:

  • Purchase and establishment of equipment for optimization of hybridoma production and screening
  • Establishment and testing of new equipment for mAb purification, mAb characterization and protein analysis
  • Hybridoma and mAb database upgrade
  • Purchase and testing of new equipment for protein expression with already existing vectors

WP2 Recruitment of research personnel who will optimize the Center’s work-flow and disseminate its potential

Objectives:

  • To employ 2 experienced postdoctoral scientists at a basis of 50% working time as research investigators, each running one team that will apply the new technologies from WP1;
  • To employ one experienced postdoctoral scientist as RI at a basis of 100% working time with the responsibility for disseminating activities;
  • To employ 3 lab engineers at a basis of 50 % working time who will increase the hybridoma productivity and mAb yield and who will improve protein expression and purification as well as hybridoma screening.

Tasks:

  • Staff recruitment
  • Expert evaluation meeting on dissemination
  • Establishing at least three additional collaborative projects with innovative applications (e.g. in proteome analysis) of mAbs

WP3 Unlocking research potential by organizing workshops and seminars or conferences

Objectives:

  • To upgrade the research capacity of the Center’s research staff in frame of mAbs generation and protein analysis.
  • To transfer knowledge between regional and international expert researchers.

Tasks:

  • Organization of annual two-week hands-on research workshops with approximately 8 participants in the technology of generating mAbs and protein analysis, conducted by international experts
  • Organization of seminars on mAb technology and application in order to facilitate knowledge transfer between regional and international experts, researchers and former workshop participants.

WP4 Developing human resources by exchange of specific know-how in mAb development as well as protein expression and analysis

Objectives:

  • To build up essential know-how in the mAb technology and protein expression field and to promote scientific development of the Center
  • To exchange experience and knowledge between the Center and partner institutions in the EU and the Region in order to remain competitive.

Tasks:

  • Organization of trainings for qualified research staff
  • Organization of two-way short-term visits between the Center and the partner institutions in the EU and the Region

WP5 Dissemination activities

Objectives:

  • To increase the visibility of the Center’s activities and goals in mAb and proteomic technology to the interested Scientific Community in general;
  • To promote the Center's capabilities by showing its scientific excellence in order to attract new collaboration opportunities and service contracts, both resulting in self sustainability in the long term.

Tasks:

  • Upgrade of the Center’s website
  • Publishing reviews on CAPRI2010 in international research magazines
  • Participation at the Festival of Science
  • Organization of press conferences
  • Intellectual property management establishment

WP6 Project management

Objectives:

  • To establish an administrative support to project work- and financial flow as well as formal reporting
  • To establish a logistical support to conferences, workshops and travel
  • To monitor the overall financial, administrative, legal and ethical aspects of the project including contracting with the EU authorities
  • To organize external audits in order to assess CAPRI2010 financial statements

Tasks:

  • Planning of specific (e.g. networking) activities to increase the Center’s research potential; organization and coordination of human and material resources, recruitment and motivation of the selected personnel, control of the financial flow of the project, communication with the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintenance of the web-page, organization of workshops and training seminars, advertisements in international scientific publications, public relations, communication with the partner institutions of the project.
  • Financial management of the project, including periodic, mid-term and final reports, with a special emphasis on financial aspect of the reports.
